A menu of gourmet hamburgers, hotdogs, baked beans, slaw, chips and peanut butter pie was served, as well as samples of chicken salad and a yogurt based potato salad. Most of these items are set to be featured at a proposed new restaurant (in the planning stages) on Red Bud Road with proprietors Marc Burke and Haley Stephens. 100% of ticket sales were donated to “The Bridge” and totaled $840.
“We wanted to try our new burger recipe and decided a benefit for the homeless would be appropriate. There are so many folks out there really hurting right now, so we wanted to help.” said Haley Stephens.
In addition to the cash donation, Fitness First of Calhoun, owned and operated by Pam Stephens, will have a collection box for items to be directly donated to homeless families. These items include canned food (microwavable), crackers, canned meat, juice boxes, baby cereal, baby food, pop tarts, travel size toiletry items, toothbrushes, toothpaste, plastic ware, plastic bowls, etc. Please drop any donations off during business hours at Fitness First or call Pam Stephens 770-548-7922 for items to be picked up.
