Gordon United Way closer to reaching finanical goal

United Way of Gordon County Executive Board members announced that 2013 Campaign is progressing with over 20 percent of the $550,000 goal already pledged.

The United Way of Gordon County campaign is on going.

“All of these very active board members are involved in all aspects of the United Way fund raising campaign and our community. The time and talents each brings to this board is tremendous and certainly makes a difference for our 18 United Way agencies,” Vickie Spence, Executive Director of the United Way, said.

Todd Harrison, President is the director of Marketing and Business Development for Hamilton Hospital. Todd and his wife Becky have two children Lauren and Justin who attend Calhoun High School. The family resides in Gordon County. Becky is the Regional Director for Premier, Inc.

Past President Jeff Clements is an attorney with the firm Vaughn and Clements. A native of Gordon County, Jeff and his wife Kim have two children Brock and Edie. Kim is the current Teacher of the Year for Sonoraville High School.

Secretary Treasurer Jennifer Palmer is the Director of E-Commerce for Mohawk. She is married to Kevin Palmer who is also employed by Mohawk and they have two children Savannah and Easton.

Vice President Robert Mathews was not available for the picture is also a native of Calhoun. He has joined the family business, Starr Mathews Agency. He and his wife Ruth have one son Jim.

Campaign Chairperson for several years is Pam Stephens the owner and operator of Fitness First of Calhoun and is married to Haley Stephens a local businessman.

Volunteer and Public Relations Chairperson Debbie King is a community volunteer. She is married to Dr. Steve King with Northwest Georgia Orthopedics and Sports Medicine and they have two children Ben and Emma.

“United Way of Gordon County appreciates the commitment made by the employers of these board members by allow them the time away from work to complete their volunteer duties. The entire United Way board is made up of an additional 16 community volunteers that give back to Gordon County.”

The first major company to report their campaign results was Shaw Industries. Shaw Industries concluded their campaign, and came in with 70 percent of the employees in Gordon County contributing to United Way.

The Gordon County Shaw employees led the entire northwest Georgia area in participation at the local plants by 10 percent.

This commitment to United Way raised almost $100,000.00 from the employees through their payroll deduction plan for giving to United Way.

The campaign will continue through the end of the year with the anticipated goal of $550,000.00 to be met again this year.

The United Way Board of Directors wishes to thank those individuals and companies listed below who have already given to support the 18 United Way agencies working in Gordon County, and encourages those who have not to please consider giving. These 18 agencies are working with the people who need the services and assistance.
