Calhoun City Schools celebrated their 110 year anniversary as a school system Friday, before and during the football game in Calhoun.

The school system was started in September 1902 on the site of the current Calhoun First Baptist Church and has continued 110 years of education.

In recognition of the commemorative event, alumni from many years past gathered on the football field in celebration.

Opening the ceremony, Teachers of the year of Calhoun City Schools, past and present participated in honoring the 2014 nominated teachers of the year.

For Calhoun Primary School, Leslie Kearns was chosen as the 2014 CPS teacher of the year and was accompanied onto the field by CPS Principal Beth Holcomb.

For Calhoun Elementary Teacher of the year, Patricia Waters was chosen as the 2014 CES Teacher of the Year, and was accompanied onto the field by her principal, Tammy Griffith.

For Calhoun Middle School, Crystal Price was chosen as the 2014 CMS Teacher of the Year. Price was accompanied by CMS Principal Michelle Knight.

For Calhoun High School, Allison Eubanks was chosen as the 2014 CHS Teacher of the Year and was accompanied on the field by CHS Principal Greg Green.

Chosen as the overall teacher of the year for Calhoun City School was CHS Teacher of the Year choice Allison Eubanks.

Calhoun City Schools Superintendent, Dr. Michele Taylor presented Eubanks with roses on the CHS football field at the conclusion of the Teacher of the Year ceremony.

Next, the CHS chorus performed the National Anthem as the U.S. Flag was raised before the football game.

To welcome the football players onto the field, alumni members of the CHS marching band, chorus, majorettes and color guard presented the CHS fight song with accompaniment by past marching band drum majors and instructors.

Throughout the football game, many alumni were recognized from years past who were marked by championships.

Alumni revisited the football field as state championships and victories were remembered in activities from CHS track teams, wrestlers, baseball teams, cheerleading teams, debate, golf, football, honor graduates and Governor’s Honors Participants.

Alumni members made their way across the Calhoun end zone throughout the Friday night game.
