Several Calhoun Middle School debate team members took home awards at their first tournament on October 6 at Tri-Cities in East Point. The competition had over 200 middle school students from around the state.

Seventh graders Chaney Bearden and Junior Waters won 3rd place in varsity competition and won speaker awards for 3rd (Bearden) and 4th (Waters). In JV, Alex Haden teamed up with a student from Kip South Fulton Academy to finish 14th. In Novice, sixth graders Randall Forster and Cole Perez were 7th place team out of over one hundred entries. Valery Flores and Rebeka Guthrie were 10th, Mark Bearden and Lex Bennett were 28th, and Alex Kirkland and Caroline Leggett were 37th. Forster was the 3rd place novice speaker, Guthrie was 17th, Perez 19th, Bearden 28th, and Flores 29th.

The next middle school tournament is November 10 at McEachern High School.
