Horse obstacle courses are a fast growing venue within the equestrian population. Made popular by various professional trainers along with Extreme Cowboy Races, horse riders and trainers are seeing the benefit of working their horses on a variety of obstacles and exposing them to as many objects as possible.

Broken Heart Ranch in Resaca is bringing the challenge to Gordon County riders, Saturday and Sunday, Oct. 20 and 21.

The Obstacle Course Challenge will allow riders of all ages the chance to compete at their own level with their horses over a variety of obstacles, and is also a great opportunity for riders who compete in other obstacle driven events to practice and improve their skills.

First, second and third place ribbons will be awarded for each division. For the Youth and Amateur Division, registration fee is $10 per horse/rider, for the Open Division, registration fee is $25 per horse/rider with prize money of 50 percent cash pay back, divided between first, second and third place holders.

The fun continues on Sunday, with a Fun Run Challenge, 2 – 5 p.m. and cost is $5 per horse/rider. No judging, awards or cash pay back will be given for this challenge.

For the entire weekend, registration forms must be completed by each participant and current Negative Coggins is required.

The event provides weekend horse trailer parking, though no electrical hookups are available. The events will be held in an open arena, concessions will be available, and everyone is reminded to bring chairs.

Also on Saturday, the Gordon County Saddle Club will “Pink out the day, for breast cancer awareness with baked goods, raffle prizes, and more.
