Belmont University student Tara Clance was crowned Miss Apple Capital on Saturday September 22 qualifying her for the statewide 2013 Miss Georgia Scholarship Pageant, where she will represent Ellijay.

Originally from Calhoun, Tara moved to Gilmer County a year ago and has been impressed with the spirit of the local community.

“In the past year I’ve noticed just how friendly and tight-knit the people of this community are, much like my Calhoun community family,” said Clance.

Miss Apple Capital is a scholarship pageant sponsored by the Ellijay Lion’s Club and official preliminary to the Miss Georgia Scholarship Pageant.

Phases of competition were Interview, talent, on stage question, swimsuit, and evening gown. Preliminary awards were also given for Talent & Swimsuit.

Tara was the recipient of the talent award for her vocal performance of “Glass” by Thompson Square.

Tara’s platform stresses the importance of healthy body image and focuses on people’s unique beautiful qualities.

“I feel body image is something that a lot of people struggle with; something I myself have struggled with at times.

In contrast to media images, we need to focus on embracing our inner qualities and God given talents and abilities, the things that truly make us who we are”.
