New Echota is featured in a new book called “Georgia Unforgettable,” released this month, which catalogs some of the state’s treasured sites.

The book is published by Farcountry Press of Helena, Mont.

Inside the book are images of sites like New Echota, Stone Mountain, and the Chickamauga National Park along with pertinent historical information.

Photos were taken by Robb Helfrieck and James Randklev, who have been photographing Georgia landscapes for many years, according to a press release.

“It was love at first sight as they say,” Randklev said in the press release. “Georgia is truly a state to experience first-hand for its friendly hospitality, it’s rich history and its awe inspiring landscapes.”

The photo taken at New Echota is featured on page 111 of the book. It includes an image of a wagon underneath an overhang with a caption that reads:

“The New Echota State Historic Site is thought to be one of the most significant Cherokee Indian sites in the country and is sadly where the infamous ‘Trail of Tears’ began.”

Helfrick is credited for taking the photo.

The book is 120 pages long and includes 143 color photographs, according to the press release.

“Georgia Unforgettable” could, perhaps, be best described as a coffee table book.

Its large and colorful pictures document sites and landscapes throughout the state. From cypress trees adorned by Spanish moss at Banks Lake in Lanier County to peach orchards in Fort Valley, the book brings to light many of the state’s unique landscapes.

Structures are also prominent in the book, including the Old Mill at Berry College in Rome and Crane Cottage on Jekyll Island.

The book can be purchased for $32.95 at www.farcountrypress.com and at other booksellers like Amazon.com and Barnes and Noble.
