The Calhoun Lady Jackets came into the season with some big goals in mind.

On Thursday night, they achieved one of those big goals, and in the process, put themselves in good shape to accomplish even bigger ones.

Calhoun defeated Dade County, 9-1, in five innings on Thursday at Alto Park to claim the Region 7-AA championship trophy, the team’s first such title since 2008.

“Our girls did a great job tonight,” said Calhoun coach Diane Smith after the championship win. “We wanted this bad, and we knew everyone in the region was here to get us at this tournament since we went undefeated in the region. But my girls got it done, and I couldn’t be prouder.”
