The Storm Prediction Center has placed most of west Georgia in a Slight Risk for severe storms today, according to the Gordon County Emergency Management Agency.

The greater risk will be generally along and west of a Blue Ridge to Monroe to Abbeville line... which includes the cities of Atlanta, Macon, Rome, and Columbus, but Gordon County is being considered a slight risk.

A deep surface low pushed into Alabama early this morning and will track into Central Tennessee Monday evening.

Strong low level wind shear coupled with increasing instabilities will increase the threat of isolated tornadoes and damaging winds in Gordon County.

Also, increasing gulf moisture could result in locally heavy rain from training storms... with one to two inches of rainfall possible.

Though widespread flooding is not anticipated from this system in Gordon County, isolated tornadoes and damaging winds are possible throughout the increasing heat of the day.

The risks are in effect until midnight tonight.
