Kimberly Smith, MD, from the North Georgia Neurological Institute, will speak.
“It is important to evaluate and treat sleep disorders such as obstructive sleep apnea because they may be risk factors for diabetes, cardiovascular disease and stroke,” said Smith. “Their treatment can greatly improve the quality of life of our patients.”
Smith is a neurologist who is board certified in Sleep Medicine through the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology, Inc., (ABPN). Smith reads sleep studies for Hamilton Regional Sleep Center, a full-service lab that is fully equipped to educate, diagnose and treat sleep disorders.
Up to 83 percent of patients with type 2 diabetes suffer from unrecognized obstructive sleep apnea.
The program is free and open to the public. Please call 706-272-6079 to register.
