Mr. Thomas Lorenzo Powell, 70, of 922 Riverbend Road, Plainville, passed away Sunday, September 16, 2012, at Cartersville Medical Center.

Mr. Powell was born in Columbus, Ga., December 1, 1941, son of the late Frank and Vergie Mae Varnum Powell. He was a member of Bethel Baptist Church, Adairsville, the Adairsville Masonic Lodge #160, F & AM, The Yaarab Temple, The Ancient and Accepted Scottish Rite, The American Quarterhorse Association, The Truss Component Manufacturers Association, and past president and member of the Optimist Club. An entrepreneur, Mr. Powell was both employed with and owned/operated several businesses over his lifetime. He especially enjoyed his horses and classic cars. Mr. Powell was preceded in death by a son, Richard Miller, a grandson, Richard Miller, III, and five brothers and sisters.

Survivors include his wife, Elizabeth Powell of Plainville; eight children, Abby (Israel) Ortiz of Fayetteville, N.C., John (Gina) Miller of Fayetteville, N.C., DeeAnn Miller, Fayetteville, N.C., Carmen (Wayne) Potter of Greeneville, Tenn., Tommy (Lisa) Powell of Greeneville, TN, Frank (Brittney) Powell of Greeneville, Tenn., Stephanie (Daryl) Adsit of Clearwater, Fla., Steven (Jennifer) Powell of Cartersville, 13 grandchildren including two special grandchildren, Danielle Miller of Fayetteville, N.C., and Tarron (Tiffany) Miller of Plainville; 11 great grandchildren; two brothers, Jerry (Jean) Powell of Columbus, Ga., and Hosie (Peggy) Powell of AL; 2 sisters, Gladys Golden of Columbus, Ga., and Judy(Jim)Warren of Eufaula, Ala.; several nieces and nephews also survive.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday, September 19, 2012, at 1 p.m. from the chapel of Barton Funeral Home, Adairsville, with Rev. Jim Pinkard officiating. Interment will follow in the Fain Cemetery, Calhoun.

The family received friends Tuesday evening from 6-9 p.m. at Barton Funeral Home, Adairsville.
