A necklace by Kathy Sproull, is only one of the many pieces featured at the Harris Arts Center’s Art Market.
The public is cordially invited to enjoy refreshments and tour the space from 2 - 4 p.m., with a ribbon cutting at 2:30 p.m.
Forty artists are represented and produce a wide variety of quality work. Photographs, oils, acrylics, collage and mixed media paintings are offered.
Wood workers have created carvings, boxes, cutting boards and lathe turned bowls, pens and bottle stoppers. Woven baskets sit alongside hand-built and wheel thrown pottery pieces.
Three jewelers use real gem stones to craft necklaces, earrings and bracelets. Tapestries, art dolls and handmade textiles are displayed. Master carvers transform real goose and duck eggs into intricate works of art.
“We have tried to have something for everyone at affordable prices,” said volunteer Mary Nell Podgorny.
Providing local artists with a venue to sell their work year round has long been a goal of the Visual Arts Guild.
The new store occupies a space on the main floor that has been renovated by a group of dedicated volunteers. “John and Mary Nell Podgorny, Co-Chairs of the Visual Arts Guild, together with our Facilities Manager, Johnnie Dobson, devoted countless hours of their time and talent to build and finish the beautiful space that is now our new store,” said Director Toni Molleson. “Many others helped as well, but special thanks go out to Carol Shanahan, Kathy Sproull, Beth and Brady Grubbs, Renee Keese, Cindy Nelson, Mike Davis and Debbie MacKnight.”
Participating artists and HAC volunteers man the store from 11 am to 2 pm, Monday through Friday. The Art Market is also open during Arts Center evening and weekend events.
Artists who wish to exhibit in the store may submit jpegs of their work for review by The Art Market Committee. Further details may be obtained by calling 706 629-2599.
