The department of Exceptional Student Services will host its inaugural “Roadmap to Success for Students with Disabilities,” parent conference.

In a joint effort between Gordon County Schools and Calhoun City Schools, parents and family members with a disabled student will be able to attend Sonoraville High School on Saturday, Sept. 15 from 8:30 a.m. until 12:30 p.m.

The conference is the first of its kind and will host sessions for parents and family members with children with disabilities on educational transitions, IEP programs, reading and math programs, as well as panel discussions.

Depending on the success of the conference, the Gordon County ESS Department will conduct a second conference after Christmas.

The conference is free, but pre-registration can be completed by picking up a form from each school.

In addition to the informative sessions, child care will be provided, and a parent mentor will be on hand to answer any questions, parents or family may have.

The conference will have refreshments and door prizes donated by several schools and local businesses. For more information, contact the Gordon County ESS Department at 706-629-4474.
