Gordon Central is off to a fast start in 2012.

And if it’s all the same to the Warriors, they would like to keep that same momentum rolling into region play next week.

But before that comes, they have one more piece of business to take care of and that comes in the form of their final non-region game Friday at Murray County.

In the first two weeks, Gordon Central (2-0) has looked dominant in two big wins. They defeated Coosa, 35-0, and Southeast Whitfield, 46-7, and have looked great on both sides of the ball.

“We wanted to put ourselves in position to win early and jump start our season before region,” said Gordon Central coach Chad Fisher. “We wanted to string together some wins to build up some confidence. All in all, we’re playing well.”

Quarterback MJ Reynolds has gotten off to a huge start for the Warriors, throwing for six TDs and running for four more. In his most recent game, Reynolds threw for 256 yards and two TDs, and ran for 56 yards and three TDs.

“MJ’s executing really well,” said Fisher. “The time and effort he’s put in is paying off. He had a really good offseason and summer, and hopefully that will continue to pay off.”

The Gordon Central defense has been solid as well, limiting Southeast Whitfield to just 10 total yards in last Friday’s win. Eric Smith led the way with 13 tackles, six tackles-for-loss and three sacks against the Raiders.

Murray County comes into Friday’s game at 0-2 after falling to Coahulla Creek and Christian Heritage in their first two games. Still, Fisher said his team is preparing like they have for the first two games.

“I expect Murray County to come out and play hard,” said Fisher.

“They are a physical team. They are a young team and seem to have some depth issues, but we can’t just come out and go through the motions.”

The Warriors are 7-3 all-time against Murray County, with their most recent win over the Indians coming in 2005 by a 26-13 score. The Indians have fallen on hard times the past seven years, combining to win just seven games since 2006.

Fisher said the biggest thing his team needs to do on Friday is to concentrate on what they do.

“The biggest thing we need to do is eliminate penalties and mistakes,” said Fisher.

“We need to take care of us and play our style. We need to worry about executing and staying focused.”

Prediction:

The Warriors look to be playing great football in the early season on both sides of the ball.

On offense, Reynolds has had a huge start, and he has weapons all over the field, including receivers Tyshaun Clemmons, Chandler Curtis, Bryan Brooksire and tight end DJ Prather.

On defense, the Warriors have been wreaking havoc on opposing offenses, constantly managing to get into the backfield to disrupt plays. Smith, Prather and LaRons Winston have been a force on the defensive line.

This Friday shouldn’t be too much different other than Gordon Central going on the road for the first time this season. The Warriors will roll into Region 5-AAA play next week against Ringgold at 3-0 after this one.
