The Georgia Department of Transportation has announced that lane closures in Northwest Georgia will be suspended starting at noon on Friday, Aug. 31 until 5 a.m. on Tuesday, Sept. 4, according to a press release.

In addition to the suspension of lane closures, all scheduled and construction related lane closures have also been suspended to help with the flow of traffic as travelers take to the streets for the three day weekend.

“The only exception would be for emergency maintenance work in the case of traffic accidents, and other unpredictable types of transportation incidents,” said DeWayne Comer, district engineer at the Georgia DOT in Cartersville. “We understand that a lot of people are hitting the road for the Labor Day holiday and we would like to make it a little easier for them to go through Northwest Georgia."
