After contributing last season at wide receiver despite being in the mix with a very talented group of senior receivers, Calhoun’s Josh Barnes will be quarterback Taylor Lamb's main target this year.

And judging by the presesason attention he's receiving, it should be a big year for the Jackets' No. 7.

Barnes was named to the Georgia High School Football Daily Class AA Preseason All-State Team recently along with teammates Lamb (QB) and Donnell Anthony (DB).

After playing behind recently departed seniors Ben Lamb, Clay Johnson and Chase Rierson in 2011, Barnes is expected to step into a larger role this year for the Jackets offense.

Barnes caught four balls for 33 yards in Calhoun's preseason scrimmage against Rome last Thursday, while also seeing time at cornerback.

The defending state champion Jackets, who are ranked No. 1 in several preseason polls around the state, will open the regular season on Friday, Aug. 31 at home against Ridgeland.
