Pets R Us, located at 169 Kelly Court, across from Sherwin Williams Paint Store, in Calhoun, is hosting their first Adoption Day rescue event on Saturday, Aug. 25, from 10 a.m. until 4 p.m.
The Animal Rescue League of Northwest Georgia will be bringing in their rescues in hopes of finding the pets loving homes.
All of the dogs are fully vetted, vaccinated, spayed/neutered (except for the puppies), and on heartworm and flea prevention.
“Our goal for this event is to get at least half of the dogs that are brought in from the rescue league into their forever homes,” states Heather Dupree, manager at Pets R Us.
Lisa Holloman, owner of Pets R Us, says she’s unable to pull directly from the animal shelter because of certain state regulations so she’s hoping to save lives by helping the local rescue groups.
“I hope that one day the animal shelter is a mid-way to these pets, instead of an end," said Holloman. "We want to help the rescue groups and the animal shelter save lives too.”
Holloman says she understands the animal shelter does the best they can to find homes but can not always find a home for every pet and is hoping this event will help.
Pets R Us is offering free Natural Balance dog food samples with all adoptions, along with a free nail trim, if needed.
They will also be selling cold beverages at the event, with all proceeds benefiting the Animal Rescue League of Northwest Georgia.
The rescue league will be accepting donations of towels, blankets, bleach, dog beds, crate beds, doghouses, metal dog bowls, rawhide chews/bones, and monetary donations at the event as well.
