The GEM Theatre and Harris Arts Center are collaborating to present an inaugural Fall Jazz Series sponsored by Georgia Northwestern Technical College.

The series will kick-off on September 16 at 3 p.m. with the Clocktower Jazz Ensemble (CTJE), a professional big band comprised mostly of area band directors, including Michael Clark, Larry Brown and Tom Moore.

CTJE performs classic arrangements from the swing era and contemporary big band hits from the libraries of Glenn Miller, Count Basie, Stan Kenton, Big Bad Voo Doo Daddy, and many more.

On October 28 at 2 p.m. the Swingtime Orchestra, with Calhoun’s own India Medders Galyean, will get your toes tapping. The Swingtime Orchestra, got its name from the Fred Astaire movie “Swingtime.”

Using the authentic arrangements, the orchestra performs in the style of the famous big bands of the Swing Era of the 1940s, including hit tunes of Benny Goodman, Glenn Miller and Duke Ellington.

The series will conclude on November 11 at 3 p.m. with the Etowah Jazz Society (EJS). Locals Larry Brown and Tim Crump play with this group of dedicated area musicians. EJS performs a variety of music ranging from Big Band-era classics to Jazz standards to Broadway to Pop Hits.
