Through extensive police work, Detective Kevin Sutton of the Calhoun Police Department recovered a guitar stolen from a vehicle in Calhoun in 2011.
The guitar was found in South Korea according to police reports.
The Tom Anderson guitar is valued at $4,500, and through a series of sales left the country.
After receiving identifying information on the guitar from the owner, such as the serial number and description, detectives conducted interviews in Duluth Ga. and several interviews by phone with members of the Korean Community in Gwinnett County, who aided detectives in recovering the stolen guitar.
In 2011, Sewell allegedly entered the car unlawfully while on Highpoint Dr. in Calhoun.
“This investigation is unique in the fact that our detectives were not only able to track the stolen item to an exact location in a foreign country, but were also able to have the victim’s property returned to the United States,” said Lieutenant Detective Tony Pyle of the Calhoun Police Department.
