ATHENS — Scholarships have been awarded to seven current University of Georgia football players, including former Calhoun High standout Rhett McGowan, according to an announcement by UGA head coach Mark Richt.

Scholarships are being renewed for former walkons Blake Sailors and Brandon Harton, both of whom were awarded scholarships for the first time last year. Sailors is a junior defensive back from Athens and Harton is a junior tailback from Reidsville.

Richt awarded scholarships for the first time to junior defensive back Luis Capella, Augusta; redshirt freshman fullback Merritt Hall, Alpharetta; junior split end Rhett McGowan, Calhoun; redshirt sophomore defensive back Connor Norman, Duluth; and redshirt sophomore linebacker Kosta Vavlas, Tarpon Springs, Fla.
