The program recognizes the work of educators in providing financial capability education to young people at a critical point in lives. Students are encouraged from Georgia’s Department of Education to participate in activities relating to Future Business Leaders of American as part of their business classes.
Junior Achievement teams up the classroom teacher and a community volunteer to assist in providing additional information relating to current business topics to the students. Mrs. Lisa Smith, SHS business teacher and FBLA adviser, stated that this provides a partnership with the community to help meet all of the goals.
In this national initiative, 80,024 students participated with an average score of 69%. 18,518 students were in the top 20% with 211 students from Georgia scoring in the top 20%.
The seven students participated in the exam at the encouragement of teacher Lisa Smith, in their business class at Sonoraville High. These students also participated in one of the following Junior Achievement programs: JA, Personal Finance; JA, Business Ethics; and/or JA, Entrepreneurship. These lessons introduce students to the importance of making wise financial decisions, ethical business decisions and decisions relating to owning your own business. The volunteers shared on-the-job experience to relate real world experience to the students.
