Gwinnett Police Cpl. Jake Smith tells WSB Radio that the remains were found near Azalea Drive in the Lawrenceville area on Sunday afternoon.
Police tell The Gwinnett Daily Post that the death is being treated as suspicious. Homicide detectives and the county's Crime Scene Investigations Unit were documenting the scene.
Smith said the remains are believed to be those of a black female between the ages of 16 and 30.
A T-shirt was found on the remains for a 2008 memorial event for Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. The shirt says "BELOVED COMMUNITY MARCH, MEMPHIS, TN. Police are asking anyone with information on the woman's identity to call them.
