Precinct by precinct breakdown and other election results available

Gordon County turned out a lower than expected 32.86 percent of registered voters at the polls Tuesday for the Primary elections.

The turnout was lower than expected, according to Shea Hicks with the Gordon County Board of Elections, who expressed an expectation of 40 percent before the polls closed.

“It was a little bit less than I expected, but there was still a good turnout,” said Hicks.

In Gordon County, of the 24,573 voters, only 8,074 voters cast their ballots at the polls, and in surrounding counties, Floyd, Bartow, Whitfield, and Murray, turnout remained well below 40 percent.

For the state of Georgia, as well as Gordon County, the turnout was low as well with only 31.34 percent of voters casting their votes. This equated to less than 1.7 million voters casting a ballot of the more than 5.2 million registered to vote.

In Gordon County, 13 precincts reported to the Gordon County Board of Elections after polls closed at 7p.m.

For the runoff elections, August 21, early voting has not officially been scheduled, according to Hicks, who says early voting will hopefully be ready for voters August 13, may not see polls opening until Wednesday, August 15.

The start date for early voting will be determined at a later date. Hicks encourages voters to vote early as polls will be closed August 20, before the runoff election day August 21.
