The Gordon County Historical Society will hold their quarterly meeting Thursday, August 16 at 6:30 p.m. at the Calhoun Depot.

The covered dish supper will feature guest speaker Carmen Shuler, who will talk about the Cherokees' use of natural fibers and the transitions they've gone through as they've adapted to environmental and economic changes.



Carmen E. Shuler, M.A., is a long-time Volunteer with Georgia's Native American historic sites and is the newly elected President of Friends of New Echota. She is a cultural educator, weaver & utilitarian fiber skills demonstrator. Shuler has long standing relationships with the the GA Department of Natural Resources, Friends of New Echota, Friends of the Chief Vann House, The Trail of Tears Association and The Chieftans Museum.
