Gordon County resident Madison Smith, a rising senior at Sonoraville High School, will be participating in the Distinguished Young Women of Georgia Scholarship Program on Friday and Saturday in Marietta.

Smith will be among 30 young women from around the state competing for a share of $13,100 in scholarships for 2013.

The competition, which is held at the Jennie T. Anderson Theatre at the Cobb Civic Center, will showcase the fitness and talents of the participants.

The competitions begin at 7 p.m. each night and tickets for Friday’s event is $20 and admission on Saturday is $25.

Distinguished Young Women, formerly America’s Junior Miss, promotes talent and leadership and has awarded more than $93 million is scholarships since its inception in 1958, according to information from the organization.
