Seventeen contestants were voted to move on to the second round of Calhoun’s Got Talent.

They will perform again on Saturday, July 28, at 7 p.m. at the GEM Theatre.

The second round contestants are: Darlene Arnold, Aric and Michael Bunch, Angela Childers, Ricky Clay, Scott Cooper, Parker Davis, Sonia Green, Stephanie House,

Tommy Jones, Josh Lance, Arielle Lawrence, Iaonna LeDay, Steven Mashburn, Heather Mayfield, Greg Moyer, Jo Ann Thompson and Heather Utz.

On July 21, singers and musicians entertained audience goers, with participant’s ages ranging from high school aged to grandparents, and musical styles running the gamut from country to classical.

Guitarist and songwriter Greg Moyer has been honing his craft for the past five years by playing in venues across the country.

Two other contestants also play guitar, Calhoun native Steven Mashburn performed “Free Fallin” and Calhoun High school senior Parker Davis delivered with “Just the Way You Are.”

Classically trained pianist Arielle Lawrence’s distinctive vocals brought a new take to Florence and the Machine’s “Shake It Out.” Lawrence credits her mother for instilling a love of music at an early age and sacrificing to provide lessons throughout the years.

The joy she receives from singing was evident in Angela Childers’ rendition of “Broken Wing.”

Not your typical grandmother, self-proclaimed “rocker granny”, Darlene Arnold, satisfied rock fans with her powerful version of “Alone.”

College bound brothers, Aric and Michael Bunch lightened the mood with their spirited harmonies, singing and dancing to “Signed, Sealed, Delivered, I’m Yours.”

Returning contestant, Scott Cooper, complete with gold lame’ jacket, lit up the stage with the doo-wop classic, “Runaround Sue.”

Josh Lance, who plans to major in music, pleased jazz enthusiasts with his bluesy rendition of “Feeling Good.”

Legal assistant HeatherMayfield’s “To Make You Feel My Love,” showcased her tender vocals. “I’m excited to be here and be a part of this. Being among these talented people makes me happy and proud to be a native of Calhoun.”

United States Marine, Tommy Jones, sang “Ole Red,” balladeer Ricky Clay moved the crowd with “Three Wooden Crosses,”

Stephanie House stepped it up with “We’re Young and Beautiful,” and last year’s second place winner, Heather Utz, reincarnated Patsy Cline with “Your Cheatin’ Heart.”

Gospel enthusiasts were entertained by Rome resident, Sonia Green’s performance of “I Won’t Complain,” accompanied by her father on the piano.

Also from Rome is Jo Ann Thompson, whose sultry alto tells a story as she sings. Another contestant who sings from the heart is Iaonna LeDay, inspiring listeners with “Greatest Love of All.”

Ticket holders will be treated to 20 talented performances at the July 28 show.

Three guest performers are Andrew McLeod and Dan DeFoor, singing selections from Les Miserables and 14-year-old Breanna Falls performing a contempory dance number.
