In their previous game, the North Georgia Bulldogs had to fight for every single yard they got in their close 12-6 win over the Atlanta Chiefs.

This past Saturday was a different story. The Bulldogs dominated on both sides of the ball en route to a 54-12 home win over the Georgia Falcons at the Calhoun Recreation Department Football Field.

The Bulldogs used their size and depth advantage to wear down the Falcons and move to 5-0 on the season.

“Our offensive line is probably the biggest group in the league and that wears people out,” said Bulldogs head coach Mark Bramblett. “Plus, we have three or four running backs that we rotate in so they are always fresh which really helps us be effective on offense.”

There was a wide margin between the teams as far as depth on Saturday. The Bulldogs dressed out close to 50 players while the visiting Falcons played the entire game with 14 players dressed out and lost one due to an injury and one to an ejection during the course of the game.

“Having more people and the ability to use a lot of players is a big advantage for us,” said Bramblett. “Our guys stay fresh throughout the game, while other teams have to use guys both ways.”

The Bulldogs offensive explosion on Saturday was led by quarterback Brisco Bingham who went 13-for-17 passing for 146 yards and two TDs. He also had a rushing touchdown.

Clarence Goines led the rushing attack with 69 yards on nine carries and a touchdown. Josh Hill added 34 yards on the ground and a touchdown. Hill also ran back a kick for a score. James Shoulders had a rushing TD as well.

CJ Dial was the leading receiver with 54 yards on five receptions and a touchdown. Tommy Parker had 36 yards on three catches and a touchdown.

The Bulldogs defense was just as impressive, setting a team record for sacks in a single game with 14. They allowed six points in each half, both coming on long passes to the running back out of the backfield.

Rich Hendricks had four of those sacks as a part of seven total tackles. Darius McDonald, Dayton Luther and Rodney Billings had three sacks apiece. Kwamaine Winters added an interception.

“I’m really pleased with our defensive line,” said Bramblett. “They put the pressure on all night in the backfield.

“Really everything clicked for us tonight. Our defense was really good, we ran the ball well and played great offensive and we cut down on our penalties. The scoreboard showed that.”

The Bulldogs, who clinched a playoff berth with Saturday’s win, were solid on special teams also with kicker/punter Steven Walters going 6-for-7 on extra points and averaging close to 40 yards per punt.

After three straight home games, the undefeated Bulldogs will now head back on the road as they visit the Georgia Knights on Saturday. The Knights enter the game 3-3.

“Hopefully we will play as well as we did tonight,” said Bramblett. “We don’t really know what to expect, but that’s alright. We want teams to have to adjust to what we do.

“I felt good before the season that we could be undefeated at this point. From here on out, we are just playing to hold our position for the playoffs. Every win is another step toward where we want to go as a team.”

After the road trip on Saturday, the Bulldogs will be back at home on Saturday, Aug. 4 to host the Alabama Trojans for their home finale. They then wrap up the regular season with a road game against the Georgia Canes.
