The remains of a human body, discovered on June 8, near Calhoun have been identified as Timmy Butler, 36, of Calhoun, last known address as Park Brook Apartments, according to a press release from the Gordon County Sheriff’s Office.

“Mr. Butler's family had reported him missing to the Sheriff's Office in late June. The identification was made using medical records and physical evidence gathered by Sheriff's detectives,” said the release.

Currently, cause and manner of death have yet to be determined, and though no evidence of foul play has been found, it is not ruled out, according to the release.

“The advanced state of decomposition of the remains made the identification process more difficult,” said the release.

Law enforcement is urging anyone with information to contact the Sheriff’s Major Crimes Unit at 706-879-5487 or the Region 1 GBI Office at 706-624-1424.
