U.S. Rep. Tom Graves honored the late Grady Green, of Calhoun, a World War II veteran at his Dalton office, according to a press release from Graves office.

Green was awarded the Purple Heart, the Bronze Star, the Good Conduct Medal, the American Campaign Medal, the World War II Victory Medal, the Combat Infantry Badge 1st Award, and the Honorable Service Lapel Button, according to the release.

Having served in the U.S. Army during WWII from 1942-1945, Green served in Italy, Africa, and Russia.

Green died in 1966 without being awarded any of these medals, according to the release, but accepting the awards on his behalf were Green’s daughter and son, Mrs. Teresa Kostreba of Calhoun and Mr. Terry Green of Chatsworth.

“Unfortunately, much of the detail regarding Mr. Green’s military service was lost due to a fire that destroyed part of his military record in 1973. Because of that fire, Mr. Green never received most of the medals that were due to be bestowed upon him,” Graves said in the release.
