Over 42 million travelers are expected to take to the road this Fourth of July holiday, and 35 million are expected to travel by automobile, according to a press release from AAA.

Several factors including an exceptionally low gas price tag, will set Fourth of July travel in 2012 as the highest since 2007, according to the release.

“While economic growth remains weak across the globe, Americans are still determined to travel and that is evident by the rebound in Independence Day travel reaching the past decade’s peak in 2007,” said Brent Hubele, vice president, AAA Travel, The Auto Club Group. “Economizing is still a major factor in summer vacations which is why we expect a continued increase in other modes of travel such as cruise, tour, rail, and bus. AAA has seen an increase in travelers searching for value vacations like cruises which offer all-inclusive travel opportunities.”

Gordon County and Calhoun are bracing for the holiday travelers all over. Salacoa Creek Park is expecting to have a full house of visitors whether they are just passing through or coming to stay for Fourth of July festivities in Calhoun and Gordon County, according to Park Director Roger Peace.

Peace has seen visitors from Texas, Florida, Tennessee, and even as far away as Baltimore.

“A lot of them passing through are just visiting, they stay a night or so, and so far the ones we have had actually came back when they travel again because they like the facility so well,” said Peace.

Salacoa offers guests camping, RV sites, fishing, swimming and other activities.

Additionally, guests will be able to enjoy the 26th Annual Star Spangeled Celebration at the Northwest Georgia Regional Fairgrounds, which features one of the largest fireworks shows in Northwest Georgia.

No matter the different festivities, Independence Day in Calhoun and Gordon County is expected to bring travelers from all over to participate in this year’s celebration.
