The closure is the result of a DUI crash into the utility tower causing the collapse of the structure on Sunday, July 1, 2012 at 4:45 p.m., according to the Georgia State Patrol office.
The road is closed for safety during normal business hours, according to Georgia Power, but will reopen after business hours around 6 p.m.for traffic.
Booneford Rd. near Owens Rd. has been closed today, Monday, July 2, for the day and will not reopen until tonight, according to the Gordon County Sheriff's Office.
The closure is due to an accident involving a collision with a utility tower, but no fatalities were reported.
Traffic is reportedly being detoured and travelers on Booneford Rd. should expect some delay.
Crews are working to replace the power structure, and hope to have all equipment and the road cleared by the evening, according to the Sheriff's Office.
Reportedly no residents are without power at this time. The Calhoun Times will provide more information as it is provided.
