Held at Fields Ferry Golf Club, the tournament took place on May 23 and included 11 teams. The winning team was Gordon EMS 1, which consisted of golfers Stacey Koonce, Tommy Carnes, Eric Boling and Derek Harp.
In addition to Gordon EMS 1, other teams competing in the tournament included Gordon EMS 2, Gordon Hospital, Gordon Nursing Administration (second place), Gordon County Fire Department, Calhoun Fire Department (third place), Gordon County Sheriff’s Office, Bartow EMS 1, Bartow EMS 2, Cherokee County Fire Department, and Cobb County Fire Department. Michael Rega of Bartow EMS won the awards for closest to the pin and longest drive.
“We appreciate everyone who came out to play in our tournament this year,” Taylor said. “We’d like to also thank our organizers and sponsors that helped us. Some very worthwhile charities will benefit from their efforts and donations.”
Taylor added that a total of $2,137 was donated to three charities that were selected by the first, second and third place teams. The proceeds were divided by 50, 30, and 20 percent, accordingly.
The winning team selected the Summerville First Baptist Church Youth Group to receive their winnings of $1,068.50, or 50 percent of the proceeds. The funds will help support the group’s upcoming mission trip to New York to assist the homeless.
Members of the second place team, Gordon Hospital Nursing Administration, selected the Gordon Hospital Radiation Therapy Center to receive their 30 percent of the winnings, which totaled $641.10. The final 20 percent of the winnings – $427.40 – went to the Georgia Burn Foundation, courtesy of the third place team, Calhoun Fire Department.
“While this event is held to bring together members of the local public service agencies under less-stressful circumstances, many people benefit from it,” Taylor added. “In the end, that’s all that matters.”
