Rena Leatherwood Starkey

Mrs. Rena Leatherwood Starkey, 63, of Calhoun, Ga. passed away Sunday, June 3, 2012 at her residence following several months of declining health. She was a native of Gordon County, born on August 12, 1948, to the late Vernie and Leona Long Leatherwood. In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by her husband, Frank D. Starkey, and a brother, Doc Leatherwood. Rena attended Sugar Valley School, and was employed by Springs Industries as a machine operator.

Survivors include her children, Brenda O’Ryan and her children, Kassey, Kayla, Ariele, Canyon, and Dominick; Susan Burns and her children, Tiffany and Tanner; Billy Burns and his wife Teresa, and their children Cody and Chandler; April Thacker and Charles Gray, and children Isaac, Abby, and Sarah Grace; Toby Starkey Baldwin and her husband Tracey, and their children Memphis, Corvin, and Izabella; and Carolyn Silvers Floyd and her husband Terry, and their child Ashley, all of Calhoun. Aunts, Johnnie Long, Lily Mae Pate. Five brothers, Frank Leatherwood, Ronnie Leatherwood, Donnie Leatherwood, Nick (Kay) Leatherwood, and Michael Leatherwood, all of Calhoun; four great-granddaughters, Brylee, Kaslynn, Kinley, and Lyla; nieces, nephews, cousins, and close friend Ed Stillwell also survive.

Funeral services for Mrs. Rena Leatherwood Starkey were held Tuesday, June 5, at 3 p.m. from the chapel of Max Brannon and Sons Funeral Home, with Rev. Eddie Brannon officiating. Active pallbearers included Tanner Harmon, Ray Pankey, Wendell Burns, Steve Silvers, and Tony Temple, “John John”. Honorary pallbearers were Lt. Charles Mazariegos, Otis Sheriff, Robert Vaughn, Charles Gaynes, Eddie Bishop, Charles Bray, and Dennis Hall.

The family would like to say special thanks to United Hospice; Erlanger Hospital, 3rd, 4th, 6th, and 9th floor; and Dr. Peter Boehm, Jr. of Chattanooga, Tenn.

The family received friends at Max Brannon and Sons Funeral Home Monday, June 4 after 1:30 p.m.
