The local youth groups from Calhoun Hispanic Seventh Day Adventist Church are reaching out to the Calhoun community asking for service projects where they can give back by volunteering their time.

According to Suzanne Roland of the Calhoun Downtown Development Authority, the church contacted them in an effort to become more involved with the community.

“They have planted flowers around the clock in the BB&T City Park and in the flower bed here at the BB&T City Park, around the gazebo and the parking lot behind the depot, and in the flower pots there at the depot,” said Roland.

According to Pastor Jose Escobar of the Calhoun Hispanic Seventh Day Adventist Church, the church has been in Calhoun for seven years, after branching off from the Calhoun Seventh Day Adventist Church.

An Elder of the Hispanic church, Rolando Candamil, explained the age ranges of the youth groups who helped plant flowers.

Eager Beavers, donned in t-shirts with a cartoon beaver, are for very young participants. The “Adventurers” group is for children up to 10-years-old, the “Pathfinders” group is for youth up to 15-years-old, and the group “Master guides,” are for the older youth.
