State-of-the-art facility announces major milestones, accomplishments Cartersville, Ga.; June 4, 2012—The Georgia Advanced Surgery Center for Women (GASC) celebrated on May 27 its two-year anniversary as Georgia’s first and still only fully accredited outpatient surgery center for performing all major and minor gynecological procedures. GASC employees marked the occasion with a staff party and aptly decorated cake from Agan’s bakery.

The GASC certainly has cause for celebration. Within two years of opening, the state-of-the- art facility has completed almost 500 gynecological procedures – all with same-day patient discharge and zero incidences of transfusion, conversion to open surgery, post-operative infection, wound complication or readmission. “This performance is outstanding by even the most stringent clinical-outcome criteria for outpatient facilities of our type,” said Hugo Ribot, M.D., medical director of the GASC and managing partner of Cartersville Ob/Gyn Associates.



During its second year of operation, the GASC also laid claim to Georgia’s first laparoscopic reversal of ligated or “tied” Fallopian tubes as a true outpatient procedure enabling near-immediate recovery. Malcolm Barfield, D.O., a GASC co-founder with Ribot and physician-partner of Cartersville Ob/Gyn Associates, performed the milestone surgery. He said, “Our unique, minimally invasive surgical approach and protocol allows the fastest, least painful recovery possible for this delicate operation, as well as for all other gynecological procedures.”



Additionally over the past year, the GASC began offering several minimally invasive, cosmetic procedures for women, including the very latest, state-of-the-art treatments for liposuction, tummy tucks, “Brazilian” lifts, fat transfer procedures and breast augmentation. Said Ribot,

“We added these extra services because our ob/gyn patients wanted them from a healthcare provider that they trust. It was a natural fit for our practice to make them available at the GASC – and they’ve been hugely successful.”

Barfield added that the GASC’s many accomplishments over the past year were a major reason why Cartersville Ob/Gyn Associates won the 2011 “Small Business of the Year Award,” bestowed by the Cartersville-Bartow County Chamber of Commerce. “Together, we offer our community the highest level of ob/gyn treatment and care available anywhere today,” he said.
