The Calhoun Police Department charged a Calhoun man with arson, terroristic threats and criminal damage to property Wednesday, May 23.

Rudy David Hernandez, 54, of Calhoun, was placed under arrest when officers arrived at Flora Drive after receiving a call about a dispute, according to the CPD.

When officers arrived on the scene, they were told that Hernandez had been drinking and threatening to kill the complainant, said the CPD report.

When officers entered the residence they discovered that Hernandez had locked himself in a bedroom and had started a fire inside of the room, which is when officers broke through the locked door and found that Hernandez had poured gasoline on a mattress and set it ablaze, according to the CPD.

Officers removed Hernandez from the room and extinguished the fire before it could spread throughout the entirety of the house.

Hernandez was taken into custody without further incident and remains in the Gordon County Jail with bond pending, according to the CPD report.
