Last season the Bulldogs boasted a perfect undefeated regular season record and went 9-1 over all. They also climbed into a top 5 national ranking.
“We’re excited to get going again,” said Bulldogs General Manager Kacee Smith. “We had a really good season last year but lost in the second round of the playoffs which really left us with a bitter taste our mouth so our guys are chomping at the bit to get going.”
The Bulldogs will be playing at the Calhoun Recreation Department and will have their first home game around mid- June with a schedule being announced soon.
They are back in Calhoun this season after playing their home games at Coosa High School last year. In 2010, they played their home games at Calhoun High's Phil Reeve Stadium.
Tickets for home games are $7 and kids under five get in free. Smith said seeing a Bulldogs game is quite an experience for the fans.
“It’s very unique at any given time you can have guys on the field that have played in the NFL, some in arena or indoor leagues, or young guys just out of high school trying to get film for college,” said Smith. “There’s guys in it just for the love of the game, and there’s guys in it to use it as a stepping stone to other things.”
A few names on the roster may sound familiar to local fans as the Bulldogs mainly draw from northwest Georgia and Northeast Alabama. A few players even played their high school football in Gordon County, including former Calhoun players Gabe Erwin and Matt Sharp and former Gordon Central players Brandon Chastain and TJ Hamilton, who will all be on this year’s roster.
Smith said this is one of the most talented teams yet.
“We’re excited about how good this team can be,” said Smith. “We’ve got a lot of guys on this team that have played at higher levels so they’ve been exposed to really good competition.
“We’ve also got a lot of young guys on this team, and that’s good because they are hungry to prove themselves and are extremely coachable.”
The Bulldogs are currently looking for a local assistant coach. If you are looking to advance as a football coach please contact the team. The team is also always looking to add additional talent and may be contacted for a tryout.

The Bulldogs first game this season will be June 16, but their opponent or where the game will be played is unknown at this point. Smith said the schedule should be released in the next two weeks.
The Bulldogs are coached by Mark Bramblett, and he is assisted by Tim Woodard and Courtney Taylor.
The team will try to build on its success the last three seasons as they went 9-1 in 2011, 7-3 in 2010 and were named the USFL's Team of the Year.
The Bulldogs have had several players sign professional contracts with different leagues over the last few seasons.
