Whether it’s the woman who brought you into this world, an aunt or a grandmother, there are a plethora of activities in Gordon County and Calhoun that will suffice for Mother’s Day festivities.
Payne Farm and Produce, located south of the airport at 204 Salem Road, will host a day of mom-friendly activities, which include a strawberry festival.
While the festival isn’t for moms only, all mothers do get in free of charge and will receive a special gift.
This strawberry soiree will begin Saturday, May 12, at 10 a.m. and run until 4 p.m.
The strawberry festival will include arts and crafts, hayrides, a petting zoo, strawberry tasting, best strawberry dish contest, farm tours and inflatables for children, according to Payne Farm.
Parking for the event is free while the gate entry is $1. Tickets for the hayride, petting zoo, farm tours and inflatables may be purchased at the gate while it lasts.
Mothers are interested in entering the strawberry dish contest should stop by Payne Farm to get an entry form prior to the event. There is a fee of $10 per dish, and all dishes must be submitted by 11 a.m. on May 12. Payne Farm will also provide 1.5 pounds of strawberries to each participant during the week preceding the festival. The grand prizewinner will receive $100; the second place winner will receive $50 while the third place finisher will receive $25.

Also on Saturday, moms and children are welcome to attend Story Time at the Fairmount City Library from 10:30 a.m. to noon.
This month’s book is How To Train Your Dragon by Cressida Cowell. Children must be accompanied by an adult.
The library will also be registering for the Summer Reading Program which begins June 2. For more information, please call 706-337-3110.
While moms and their children will be having fun down on the farm on Saturday, many churches will be conducting special Mother’s Day church services.
Living Water Ministries will be hosting a special Mother’s Day service, which will begin at 11 a.m., and all mothers present will be recognized and honored.
First Baptist Church in Calhoun will have a special baby dedication during its 11 a.m. service.
Mt. Pleasant United Methodist Church will host a free card making class Saturday, May 12 beginning at 10 a.m. and will go until noon. Participants can make a card and take it home with them.
Organizers of the event want citizens to know that it doesn’t have to be a Mother’s Day card, but can be for a special person, too.
