She was born in Murray County on Sept. 16, 1919, daughter of the late Phillip Elmer and Vessie Nevada Foster Duvall. In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by her husband, Malgum Henry “Abe” Fortner in 1979, to whom she was married in 1939; two brothers, Roy Duvall and Grady Duvall; and a sister, Ruby Duvall Graham.
Mrs. Fortner was the oldest active member of New Town Baptist Church. She loved her family and her church. Survivors include a son and daughter-in-law, Aaron and Julia Fortner of Calhoun; two grandchildren, Kim Pott and Dana Brown; two great-grandchildren, Tiffany Thomas and Hayden Brown; and three great-great grandchildren, Brooklyn Thomas, Addison Brown, and Bryleigh Elkins.
Funeral services for Mrs. Myrtle Marie Fortner were held Friday, April 20 at 1 p.m. from the New Town Baptist Church, with Rev. Walter Hare officiating. Music was arranged by Maudie Weaver and Kathryn Quinn. Interment followed the service in the Fain Cemetery.
Active pallbearers included Lester Duvall, Bobby Duvall, Randy Duvall, Ronald Graham, Viron Cronon, and Juddie Campbell.
