A Resaca man due in Whitfield County Superior Court on Thursday on child molestation charges failed to show and a bench warrant was issued for his arrest, District Attorney Bert Poston said.

Donovan Lewis Downer, of 130 Crane Road, was to appear in court to determine if the case against him was ready for trial.

Downer was arrested in April 2010 by the sheriff’s office on an indictment warrant based on three alleged separate instances of child molestation, the oldest dating back to August 2006.

“There were three separate female victims, all under 16,” former district attorney Kermit McManus said at the time of the arrest. “The girls were acquaintances of (Downer), but were not related to him.”
