Locals in Gordon County are running for their lives.

In an effort to raise money for Gordon Hospital’s new radiation therapy unit, the community is lacing up its sneakers and hitting the track for the GH benefit race, “Run For Your Life,” Thursday, April 26.

“I feel like this is very important, not only for our community, but for our cancer patients and caregivers,” said Judy Jackson, Gordon Hospital Foundation’s Director of Development Services. “They will no longer have to travel to Atlanta to receive treatment; some patients have to travel five days a week.”

The new unit will open doors, not only for the GH, but for the community as well.

“What a difference this is going to make,” said Jackson. “It’s a big deal for our community.”

The race will commence in front of the GH campus promptly at 6:30 p.m.

Currently GH is still registering runners (and walkers) for the event; they will accept racers the day of the event, too.

The cost is $25 for those who register prior to the event; the cost is $30 for those who register the day of the race. Students can register for $20. Donations are also desirable.

Those who have already registered can pick up their t-shirts and goodie bags from the GH Human Resources Building across from the hospital Wednesday, April 25 between 5 p.m. and 8 p.m.

For more information on the benefit, call Judy Jackson at 706-879-4744.
