The Calhoun Yellow Jackets played the Adairsville Tigers to kickoff the tournament and downed the Tigers 9-4.
In a back-and-forth battle, the Jackets eventually broke through in the 5th inning scoring 6 runs on 7 hits.
Calhoun statistician Brooks Gallman was proud of the way the team played to come from behind to win.
“To me the proudest moment for our kids was the way they stayed up and played very business like,” said Gallman. “They showed a lot of heart."
Getting the nod on the mound for Calhoun was Jordan Towe, who according to Gallman “pitched a gem of a game.”
Towe finished with 5 strikeouts, 1 walk, 4 hits and no earned runs.
“Jordan has pitched well for us every outing and has easily been our most consistent pitcher,” added Gallman.
Contributing to the offensive push for Calhoun was Dusty Baker, Tanner Gallman, Grant Clark and Ryan Randall.
Calhoun finished with 12 hits and 9 runs.
In the biggest upset of the tournament, Ashworth defeated the No. 2 seed Woodland Wildcats 6-3.
Ashworth Warriors Baseball Head Coach Christopher Warren is proud of the overall play of the Warriors.
“Our team played an extremely hard game,” said Warren. “Everyone contributed at the plate.”
Leading the scoring for the Warriors was Ryan Cloer and Alex Naymick who had two triples during the game that caused rallies.
Ashworth’s sixth grader Jackson Fowler pitched a complete game giving up 2 earned runs.
“All of the coaches are extremely proud of the team,” said Warren. “They have been working hard all year and it finally paid off.”
The Sonoraville Phoenix played the South Central Chieftains and won easily 10-0 to advance.
Easton Gallman had the start on the mound allowing only 2 hits and striking out 8 Chieftains.
Collum pitched in relief and had 2 strikeouts.
Leading the offense for Sonoraville was Ryan Gross, Jireh Wilson, Joseph Potts and Ryan Brown.
