Citing business reasons, Chad Whitefield announced today he won't run for a state Senate seat after all.

Whitefield stepped down last month from a post on the Floyd County Commission to seek what will be the vacant Senate District 52 seat.

Former State Transportation Board member David Doss has also declared for the seat. Both men are Republicans. No Democrats have announced their intention to run for the post.

The district covers all of Floyd and parts of Chattooga, Gordon and Bartow counties.
