The Georgia Department of Natural Resources, State Parks and Historic Sites Division and New Echota Cherokee Capital State Historic Site announces the New Echota Historic Site 50th Anniversary Celebration.

Officially dedicated on May 12, 1962, the 50th Anniversary Program is scheduled for Saturday, May 12, 2012.

New Echota has grown from the early days of having four historic and reconstructed buildings, to now offering 200 acres of historic walking paths, two nature trails, a visitor center with exhibits, a research library and 17-minute film and twelve historic and reconstructed buildings.

The site is currently open Thursday-Saturday, 9:00-5:00. Demonstrations, historic building and grounds tours and details of the official 50th Anniversary Program are being set and will be announced in the weeks to come.
