Getting the nod on the mound was Easton Gallman who pitched a complete game and struck out 10 Tigers.
The game remained scoreless until the bottom of the 3rd inning when the Phoenix crossed the plate twice to take an early lead.
Hunter Lay and Zach Collum got the inning started with back-to-back singles followed by an Easton Gallman walk. The next batter was Joseph Potts who singled in Lay and Collum.
In the top of the 4th inning, Adairsville answered right back scoring one run before Gallman silenced their offensive attempt.
Going into the bottom of the 5th inning up 3-1, the Phoenix added on some insurance scoring three more runs with contributions from Collum, Potts, Ryan Gross, Ryan Brown, and a mishandle by an Adairsville player making the score 7-1.

Soccer
Now that it’s win or go home in soccer, the Ashworth Warriors came out ready to prove that they are not going home anytime soon, handing the Woodland Wildcats a round one loss in the Bartow Gordon Middle School Athletic Association tournament.
Ashworth edged out the win by a score of 2-1, and in doing so, advance to face county rival the Calhoun Yellow Jackets in round two. As Calhoun boys and girls handed the Adairsville Tigers an early ticket into the off-season. Calhoun boys won 5-0 over the Tigers while the Lady Jackets won 1-0 over the Lady Tigers.
Scoring the two goals for Ashworth was Kenneth Cua.
Ashworth Boys Soccer Head Coach Daniel Worley is excited to be moving on to the next round.
“It’s nice, very good; I’ll take a win any day,” said Worley. “We’ve had better efforts, but we came together and did what it took.”
Scoring for the Lady Jackets was Leah Prather.
Calhoun Soccer Head Coach Matt Veal said the defensive standouts for the girls were Carter Baggett, Victoria Roper, and Caitlyn Carroll.
Scoring for the boys were Gabriel Garcia who netted 2 goals while Nick Freelin, Alex Flores and Luis Vazquez each scored 1 goal.
The Sonoraville Phoenix did not fare as well, but each team has another season under their belt, and will come back next year stronger and with more experience.
Sonoraville Girls Head Coach Brandi Seiz is happy to have had this experience with Assistant Coach Kenny Walraven and the girls.
“We had a great group of girls this year and they played with a lot of heart,” said Seiz. “Many of our girls have plans to play club ball this summer and fall, and we are expecting some young talent from rising 5th graders,”
She added that they are already making plans for next season and looking forward to progressing as a middle school program.
The Lady Phoenix lost to Cass 3-0 while the boys lost to Cartersville 5-0. The Ashworth Girls lost to the Woodland Lady Wildcats 6-0.
Baseball
The Calhoun Yellow Jackets hosted the Woodland Wildcats and edged out a win 6-5.
Jarrett Carden started the game for the Jackets and pitched a complete game.
Leading the offensive push for Calhoun was Matthew Mullinax who finished with 3 RBIs and 2 doubles. Grant Clark and Dusty Baker had 2 hits each.
Calhoun took an early lead 4-1, but the Wildcats refused to go away scoring twice in the 4th inning and two more in the 5th inning giving them the lead 5-4, according to Calhoun statistician Brooks Gallman.
Calhoun answered right back to retake the lead in the bottom of the 5th when Tanner Gallman singled up the middle. Other contributions by Luke Jones, Jordan Towe and Mullinax secured the win for the Jackets.
The Jackets finished the game with a total of 8 hits.
Gallman said it was “one of the most exciting games of the year.”
Track
The Sonoraville track team met with the South Central Chieftains; both the boys and girls from Sonoraville dominated the meet.
The boys’ earned 65 points while the girls missed first place by one point; they finished with 55.
