“Last year was our first race after taking several years off from the Fun Run the Foundation sponsored for 14 years,” says Judy Jackson, director of development for Gordon Hospital. “We renamed it last year and it went so well, we definitely want to continue to make this an annual fundraiser for the hospital. Runners from all over the region took part in the race last year. Although it was a bit cooler than planned, it was very well received.”
The Run for Your Life course will start and end in front of Gordon Hospital. Runners and walkers of all ages and capabilities are invited to participate.
The course will go through the hospital parking lot to 911 Boulevard, right onto Curtis Parkway, and through the Derby/Normandy/Devonwood neighborhood and then back in a similar fashion.
“We will need to modify last year’s course just a bit, because of the construction going on with the Radiation Therapy Center at the front of the hospital. But it will probably be fairly close to last year’s route,” says Jackson. “We are excited about sponsoring the race again. As a hospital, we know how important physical fitness is in keeping ourselves and our families healthy, and we want to emphasis that, but it’s also a great way to raise money for a wonderful cause, such as our radiation center, which will help all of our community for years to come. You don’t have to be a competitive runner either. You can walk and strollers are welcome too. Some have mentioned that they will be walking in honor or in memory of someone who has battled cancer and we encourage that as well.”s
