What Walter Harris, is planning to be a “fun-filled day of activities,” will honor and remember the Stephens High School basketball teams.

Harris is the event coordinator of the Calhoun-Gordon County Black History Planning Committee that has put together a yearly basketball game to bring people together to celebrate black history.

They are pleased to extend an invitation to honor the past teams of Stephens High School men’s and women’s Green Hornet basketball teams today, March 10, 2012.

A flyer the committee released states, “we understand the great commission is to engage in the community and to reach out to those beyond our physical walls.”

The event will be hosted at the Sonoraville Complex Gordon County Parks and Recreation Gym. The gym is located at 7494 Fairmount Hwy. S.E.

There will be a 10-13 age group boy’s basketball game starting at 6:30 p.m. There will be a men’s game to follow at 8 p.m.

The committee will recognize Stephen’s High School alumni at halftime around 8:30 p.m.

Vendors are also welcome to attend the festivities and promote their businesses. The only charge will be a $25 setup fee.

The committee is also open to any and all donations that would help with the financial assistance it needs to cover the cost of the event.

I don't think it was the relevance of history months that was racist, it was the identifying races by cheap cliches that's the problem.

what?!? – You are obviously not familiar with our playmate morn, as it is a typical morn-ism to equate EVERYTHING with race. If Istillwantequalrights did error in any sense, it was not associating white folks with NASCAR.

Leave it to morn to insinuate someone is a bloodthirsty, murdering racist by merely asking a question that would dare explore the relevance of a “history month” devoted to a particular race of people. Geeezzz!

Rather than "EXTEND" February (Black history month) 29 day this year was enough. Why not make March White history month instead? We could celebrate it with a baseball game. Then in May we could have Hispanic month and a game of soccer. Oh yea,I forgot April.Lets give it to those from the orient and break out a ping-pong table.I bet you get the message now.Noone is special here!
