The victim has been identified as Steve Gary Rhinehart, 62, of 179 Rhinehart Dr, Ranger, and his son, Matthew Joel Rhinehart, 35, of the same address, is charged with the murder.
Deputies were called out to their home around 1 p.m. Monday afternoon in response to a 9-1-1 call for help.
When they arrived, they found the body of a male, now identified as Steve Rhinehart, who appeared to have suffered gunshot wounds.
Matthew was arrested at the scene.
"Investigating officers believe the shooting resulted as the culmination of a domestic dispute," said a report released by the Gordon County Sheriff's Office.
Steve's body was taken to the State Crime Laboratory in Decatur to undergo postmortem examination.
Matthew remains at the Gordon County Jail.
"This was a tragic event in which a life was needlessly lost. I am pleased that my deputies responded rapidly and quickly effected the arrest of the accused, as well as recovering what we believe to be the weapon involved," said Gordon County Sheriff Mitch Ralston. "I also want to thank the local office of the GBI for all their investigative help. Mr. Rhinehart will now face a jury of his peers to answer for his actions."
