Douglas Riley Payne, 44, 174-C Keith Ave., and Regina Charlene Doremus, 44, of the same address, are charged with trafficking in methamphetamine and possession of marijuana with intent to distribute. Payne is also charged with possession of firearms by a convicted felon and burglary.
Payne and Doremus were attacked at the Keith Avenue residence in September 2011 by Richard Codey Haddock, 18, of 695 Booger Branch Road in Crandall, said Assistant District Attorney Scott Minter. Haddock and two other white males kicked in the front door of the home, which is listed as Doremus’ residence in a Murray County Sheriff’s Office incident report, and assaulted her and Payne after demanding money.
Payne was struck in the head and was bleeding from the attack, and Doremus sustained marks on both arms and shoulders, the report stated.
Haddock was charged by the sheriff’s office with probation violation, armed robbery, aggravated assault and burglary, the latter charge because the trio took items from the home. The two other assailants have not been found.
When asked if the home invasion involved a quest for drugs by the assailants, Sitton replied that investigators found no evidence of it.
Chief Deputy Ray Sitton said officers had been doing some extra patrols in the area because of the attack when a deputy noticed some individuals were burning the insulation off copper wiring at the Keith Avenue property.
