Calhoun City Schools held their system-wide spelling bee on Friday, Jan. 20, in the Calhoun Middle School media center. Students from both CES and CMS qualified for the event.

The students representing CMS were: Allie Baldwin, Jonathan Castillo, Austin Cherry, Caitlyn Cherry, Rebecca Hite, Jaxon Holland, Hannah Ku, Harshal Patel, Cory Presley, Madison Turner, Sam Warren, and Janelle Williams.

Three students, Bryan Carillo, Maggie MacKnight, and Zoe Williams represented CES. Competition was tough this year with eighth grader, Harshal Patel, winning by spelling the word "duress" correctly in round 11.

Coming in a close second was eighth grader Madison Turner. Harshal will represent Calhoun City Schools on Saturday, Feb. 25, in Rome.
